
A wastewater treatment plant in Idaho partnered with Clearwater Dewatering and WaterSolve to find a cost-effective way to dewater biosolids. Using Geotube® containers and polymer conditioning, the team achieved efficient dewatering and simple disposal—reducing costs while improving plant operations.

This Idaho Wastewater Treatment plant was looking for a more cost-effective way of dewatering their biosolids. Their digester was full, and they needed an economical and effective way to dewater it. Clearwater Dewatering of Nampa Idaho, the local agent for WaterSolve LLC, worked with the city to solve their problem. The solids could be dewatered in a Geotube® container and then hauled to a landfill for final disposal by city. The project was started in September 2009.
Geotube® containers are manufactured from high strength polypropylene fabric and designed to allow effluent water to escape through the pores of the fabric while retaining the chemically conditioned solids. The containment location selected at the site allowed for the 40 feet by 57 foot Geotube® to be installed.
Clearwater Dewatering trained the Wastewater Treatment Plant personnel and superintendent in the proper procedures for installing and filling the Geotube® container. This included testing and adjusting the polymer dosage and mixing rate as the material is treated and sent to the Geotube®. The digester tank solids will need to be transferred to Geotube® units two to three times annually. After the Geotube® units are filled and adequately dewatered, they are cut open, and the solids are hauled to a landfill for final disposal.
